Convert a web page to Markdown
Paste the address of an article, documentation page or blog post. GetMarkdown keeps the main content and adds the title, author and source as YAML frontmatter. 20 free pages a day, no account needed.
Our server fetches the page to read it. Results are cached for up to an hour so repeat requests are fast.
What usually carries over
- Headings, paragraphs and the reading order of the main content.
- Lists, tables and code blocks.
- Links and images, rewritten as full URLs.
- Title, author, publish date and source URL in YAML frontmatter.
What to review afterward
- Pages that load their content with JavaScript can come back empty.
- Content behind a login or paywall is not visible to the converter.
- Some sites block automated requests; save the page as HTML and upload it instead.
- Comments and related-post lists are removed on purpose.

URL conversion questions
Is the URL to Markdown converter free?
Yes. You can convert 20 web pages per IP address per UTC day without an account. Sign in to get the same allowance per user, then pay 1 credit per uncached page. Credit packs start at $9 for 500 credits.
What does it remove from the page?
Navigation menus, sidebars, ads, cookie banners, comment sections and footers. It keeps the main content: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, code blocks, links and images.
Why did a page come back empty or fail?
Some pages load their content with JavaScript after the page opens, sit behind a login or paywall, or block automated requests. For those, open the page in your browser, save it as HTML, and upload the file on the homepage instead.
Do you store the pages I convert?
Our server fetches the page to read it and returns the Markdown to you. Results are cached for up to an hour so repeat requests are fast, then they expire.
Can AI agents and scripts use it?
Yes. Use the convert_url MCP tool or GET https://www.getmarkdown.com/api/v1/extract?url=... with Accept: text/markdown. Anonymous requests get 20 free pages per IP address per UTC day. API keys pay 1 credit per uncached page when enabled; API-key access currently returns 503 developer_api_unavailable in production. See the developer resources for the full contract.
